Sunday Short: The Cutting Edge

By Sarah Cate Anstey, Jul 30 2017 09:20AM

For a while

it was kept sharp

heart, soul, sense of being

cut to shreds

to feel

the sting of memories

to retain

grief was better than nothing

bloodied love seeped.

gradually, imperceptibly

the blade blunted

with nothing to cut

wounds healed

memories fading to scars

to add to the collection

of what had gone before

of what hadn’t killed

reminding me

of the weakness

in regretting

of the strength

to forget
