He hears her, but he lets her knock and call out a little longer.
When he does open the door he notes, with satisfaction, that she is taken aback at his appearance.
She’s shocked, he’s delighted.
“Welcome,” he says politely. “We haven’t had the chance to meet yet. How long has it been? Anyone would think I was an embarrassment! I’ve been looking forward to making your acquaintance.”
“I’ve heard a lot about you,” she says boldly.
“I’ll bet you haven’t,” he replies grinning. “Anything you have heard won’t be enough, it can’t ever be.”
“So, what are you doing here?” she enquires, cautiously.
“Oh hanging out, you know. It’s been a while, so I thought I’d drop by. Reiterate a few home truths.”
“Such as?” she tries to sound nonchalant.
“Now that would be telling,” he smiles, seeing right through her.
“So, where is your host then?” she asks pretending not to care.
“Unpacking my stuff. There’s a lot of it,” he adds looking at her sideways. She sits down.
“I wouldn’t bother making yourself too comfortable. You won’t be staying long,” -
the bedroom door slams and he grins at her - “not now I’m here.”
